FIRST Breakaway is the game FIRST Robotics teams play in the 2010 FRC season. Breakaway is played by two alliances of three teams on a field similar to a soccer field. The teams must use their robots to kick, shoot, or push soccer balls into two goals on the opposite end of the playing field. The field is divided into three sections by bumps that are 13 1/2 inches high by 12 inches wide.

        They game starts with a 15 second autonomous mode where the robots drive around by themselves followed by a two minute teleoperated mode where the human players take control of the robot. At the end of the two minute teleoperated mode the teams have 20 seconds to suspend their robots from the towers to score bonus points. Each soccer ball scored is worth one point, a robot suspended from the teams tower is worth two points, and a robot suspended from a robot is worth three points.
